Les pratiques douteuses de RealNetworks
Pour le public, tout a commencé le lundi premier novembre au matin lorsque le New York Times a publié un article avisant que RealNetworks savait tout des habitudes musicales des 13,5 millions d'internautes qui ont téléchargé RealJukebox. Ce logiciel permet d'écouter des CD sur un ordinateur, de copier des morceaux sur le disque dur et de télécharger de la musique trouvée sur le net. Le programme peut être obtenu gratuitement sur le site de la compagnie mais, une fois installé il attribue un numéro d'identification à chaque usager. Cela permet à la compagnie de savoir chaque fois qu'il se connecte à un site web pour écouter de la musique, le nombre de morceaux enregistrés sur son disque dur et le type de musique que la personne en question préfère. Ces informations sont envoyées quotidiennement aux serveurs de RealNetworks. Lire l'article dans netsurf.
