E-Commerce: New Trend
Are you ready for e-shopping assistants?
If you are finding yourself overwhelmed by holiday shopping, and finding bargains on the Web is becoming a nightmare, relax, you have help. No, these are not the comparison shopping agents known as shopping bots, but an emerging technology called electronic personal shopping assistants.

Two venture capital-fattened startups,
eBoodle.com and Dash.com, are the first to the market with this new technology. These companies are the next evolutionary step in the online comparison-shopping universe. Forbes

"Interesting if True"
Teenagers Desert The Internet, Study Finds
U.S. teenagers are deserting the Web in droves, according to research by London's Brunel University.

"There is a substantial drop off by particular sections of society. Teenagers seem no longer to be using the Internet as they did." -- Sociology professor Steve Woolgar who heads London's Brunel University virtual society program

He said it is
categorized by the researchers as "interesting if true" at this early stage in the analysis of the findings. Because of the preliminary nature of the data, Woolgar declined to give figures, but said the number of ex-users outweighs the number of current users.

And the reason? "
It's boredom with this new faddishness," he said. TechWed

Condom Sense
Battle Rages Over "Sensitive" Domains
The Internet is a natural fit for so-called "sensitive items" that people wouldn't be caught dead buying in a brick-and-mortar store. The online condom business is also a natural for the Internet, and two of the key players in the market are headed to court over domain names. Condom Sense, which can be found at condoms.net has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against competitor Condomania, because they bought the domain name condomsense.com from a third party. Y2K
Y2K Delights
A Houston security-software company plans to liven up New Year's Eve for techies who will be stuck spending the weekend monitoring corporate computer networks for year-2000 breakdowns. BindView Corp. says it will turn its Web site into a virtual New Year's arcade featuring online games and cult flicks such as the 1960 version of "The Little Shop of Horrors."

But should the date change cause havoc despite the billions of dollars in fixes, the developer of antihacker and other security programs plans to set up
chat rooms to allow visitors to exchange information and to make its security experts available for consultation. WSJ Paid subscription required.
