How many commercial websites can you think of that are named after places or regions? Amazon.com is perhaps the most obvious, and there are many others. Recently there was a little known ruling against one company that COULD set a precedent for anyone wanting to use a geographical place name for a website address. Switzerland not allowed to use «.eu»
.eu European Domain Will Arrive Mid-2001
The European Commission has now said «.eu» will be introduced in the middle of 2001. Switzerland last month lodged a formal complaint with the EU Commission because it has been excluded from the domain. Switzerland, which is not a member of the EU, says the .eu domain should not be exclusive to the 15 EU member states. Internet News
