Yahoo ! Inspector
Yahoo! vows to stop pedophiles
In an exclusive interview with ZDNet News U.K., Martina King, U.K. managing director of Yahoo!, confirmed that the company is about to employ a Yahoo! “inspector” charged with ensuring that Yahoo!’s Messenger system is not polluted with pedophile content. “We are working closely with Childnet and the Internet Watch Foundation as well as the police to deal with this problem,” King told ZDNet Tuesday. Domain Names
New net domains remain in short supply
The net's new domain names may do little to open up the internet and the range of names that people can pick. Many of the companies that will be administering the new domains are planning to restrict who can buy them by charging hefty registration fees and vetting those that apply. Neulevel, the company that will be running .biz, is reportedly planning to charge $2,000 for each domain name and a $150-a-year renewal fee. In contrast, many .com domains can be snapped up for as little as $50. (BBC)

Customers are under surveillance by download site EMusic to make sure they don't post its licensed songs. If they do, EMusic wants their accounts terminated. EMusic is using software that identifies the "acoustic fingerprinting" of music files compressed in the popular MP3 format. (The Industry Standard)

Beaver College filtered out
Web filters force Beaver to rename itself
Ridicule from filthy-minded perverts has forced the staff to change the name of Beaver College. The Internet has also played a part in the decision to ditch the Beaver. Some filters, designed to monitor sexually-explicit material, have been blocking access to the college's Website. The college's new Web address, www.arcadia.edu will take effect on Thursday, but surfers will also be able to access the institution via www.beaver.edu until next July. (The Register)
