Virtual Care
Virtual nurses to care for UK elderly from Chicago
Elderly people in Surrey are to receive remote control care from 'virtual nurses' based in Chicago. Special equipment will monitor residents' pulses, respiration and blood pressure and will mean pensioners can also have conversations with their carers 4,000 miles away via a video screen. Health and council chiefs in Guildford say it will be cheaper and offer quicker response times than the NHS. It will also mean pensioners can come out of hospital sooner, not go into residential homes and yet still have 24-hour care. (Ananova) |
