La nouvelle version du navigateur, propriété d'AOL-Time Warner, dispose d'un filtre à pop-up... qui laisse cependant passer l'auto-promotion du groupe. (Le Journal du Net)

Domain Names
ICANN to approve new domains
Most Internet users will not be able to register Web site names in the new domains, as they will be limited to organizations in specific fields such as health care. The precise number and names of the domains will be determined by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in early 2003, the group said.

The new domains will follow the model of existing "restricted" domains such as .edu, which is open only to U.S. colleges and universities, and .museum, which is limited to museums, rather than being open to all like .com and .net. ICANN approved the plan Sunday at its annual meeting in Amsterdam. (News.com)

Super Bowl Advertising
Super Bowl Ads: Some Suit Up, Some Don't
The Super Bowl, advertisers' annual opportunity to reach nearly half of all Americans in one shot, promises to have a fair representation from Internet and technology companies, although a few previous advertisers have chosen a seat on the sidelines.

After the dot-com boom, which saw Internet startups like Pets.com and kforce.com fritter away millions on SuperBowl ads in 1999 and 2000, the majority of the Super Bowl's advertisements have again been snapped up by traditional heavyweights, such as Anheuser-Busch and Pepsi. Anheuser-Bush alone has snapped up 10 of the 61 in-game advertisements that are expected to fetch ABC up to $2.2 million each.

Online job site Monster, a division of TMP Worldwide and its rival HotJobs, now a part of Yahoo! have both said they will air commercials at Super Bowl XXXVII on Jan. 26, although Monster has scaled back its commitment to just one spot compared to the two it ran last year. (Internet News)

WiFi
The Big Boys' Mad Dash into Wi-Fi
The wireless Internet is all the rage. The question now: Can tech giants turn it into a bona fide, billable business? [...] It's by far the hottest piece of the mobile Internet. With the price for home networks dropping below $200, hardware sales are expected to grow from about $1.5 billion to $2.3 billion this year, according to Synergy Research Inc. The trick now is to lure all these home networkers outside, onto the broader Wi-Fi networks -- and bill them for it. It's the tech sector's next big step toward mastering the mobile Internet. (Business Week)

2002 was the year of Wi-Fi
The number of global Wi-Fi hot spots this year ballooned from 2,000 to 12,000, making this what many have dubbed "the year of Wi-Fi". (802.11 Planet)
