Sly Romances
For Some Married People, Internet Dating Has Draw
The Internet has changed the way people date by making it easier to find potential mates with similar interests and backgrounds. But it has also changed the way married people strike up affairs. No need to slyly slide off the wedding ring: A computer and an Internet connection make it easy to discretely find new romance, and to keep any straying secret. E-mailing a love interest -- whether met online or in the real world -- means no need for hushed phone conversations or suspicious long-distance bills. As a result, the affair often comes as a complete shock. (WSJ)

File-sharing dilemma for broadband firms
Fast net providers find themselves with a tricky dilemma as file-swapping becomes one of the most popular broadband activities. But sharing material that is copyrighted is illegal and file-swapping is causing a huge drain on the bandwidth, and consequently the pockets of service providers. Networks are being swamped with file-sharing traffic and the amount of bandwidth they use is causing serious headaches for providers. (BBC) |

All The News That's Fit to Broadcast
How can the Web be used as an independent medium for distribution of journalistic work? This issue is being discussed quite frequently here. Weblogs and moblogs (the mobile version) get a lot of attention. But what about video? Take a look at the young Italian company Lulop, which has built an international network in order to bring independent video reporters and broadcasters from everywhere in the world together. Surf and Fly: Not so easy
Flying Net access still has glitches
30,000 feet above san Francisco I surfed the Internet from my airline seat, and I loved it. But I needed a lot of help. Last week, I sent e-mail, checked eBay auctions, and even wrote this story while flying in a Boeing test plane equipped with Internet access for passengers. (USA Today) |
