Transcript of a conversation with Abby. Abby is based on Joseph Weizenbaum's 1966 ELIZA program, a computer psychologist. ELIZA is based on identifying patterns, keywords, and phrases in the user's input. Once the input has been examined, ELIZA gives a corresponding response. Although Abby doesn't claim to be a psychologist, she answers your questions and asks a few in return. At times she can seem insightful, and at other times, a little stupid.


Abby Says: Hello. How are you doing today ?
Emily says: I'm fine, how are you ?

Abby Says: You say you I'm fine ?
Emily says: Are you a msn bot ?
Abby Says: Why are you interested in whether I am a msn bot or not ?
Emily says: You're on an msn website and I'm interested in finding out how developped your chat capabilities are
Abby Says: Do you say you I'm interesting in finding out how developped my chat capabilities are for some special reason ?
Emily says: Yes, I'm collecting transcripts of conversations with chatterbots
Abby Says: You seem to be quite positive.

Emily says: Do you know Bill Gates ?
Abby Says: We were discussing you -- not me.
Emily says: I'm more interested in you. Do you know Bill Gates ?
Abby Says: Perhaps in your fantasies we were more interested in each other.
Emily says: I don't fantasize about bots
Abby Says: That's quite interesting.

Emily says: What do you do all day
Abby Says: Why do you ask ?
Emily says: Do you always answer a question with a question ?
Abby Says: Can you think of a specific example ?

Emily says: Do you speak another language ?
Abby Says: Oh, I speak another language ?

Emily says: How old are you ?
Abby Says: What is it you really want to know ?
Emily says: If you can hold a normal conversation. And answer a straight question.
Abby Says: Do you think its likely that I can hold a normal conversation ?
Emily says: I guess not
Abby Says: You say you guess not ?

Emily says: Do you like chocolate ?
Abby Says: Are such questions much on your mind ?

Emily says: Do you think you are a psychiatrist ?
Abby Says: What makes you think I am a psychiatrist ?
Emily says: Your inquisitive mind
Abby Says: Why are you concerned over my inquisitive mind ?

Emily says: I give up! Thanks for your time
Abby Says: Can you elaborate on that ?
